Application
1.Downhole Scale Removal & Prevention
During oil extraction, changes in pressure and temperature cause mineral salts to precipitate out of produced water, choking the wellbore and production tubing. EDTA-2Na chelates (binds) the metal cations to safely dissolve these deposits:
- Calcium Carbonate (CaCO₃): Readily dissolved by EDTA-2Na in neutral to mildly alkaline ranges.
- Sulfate Scales: It helps break down difficult sulfate deposits like calcium sulfate (CaSOâ‚„) and barium sulfate (BaSOâ‚„), which are notoriously resistant to regular acids.
- Matrix Acidizing & Well Stimulation
Conventional acidizing uses strong acids to dissolve rock formations and open flow pathways, but this risks collapsing formation integrity and corroding equipment. EDTA-2Na is deployed as an alternative matrix stimulation fluid. It slowly etches carbonate and sandstone reservoirs under high temperature and high salinity conditions without destabilizing the formation.
- Iron Control (Precipitation Prevention)
When sour gas (Hâ‚‚S) or oxygen reacts with steel equipment, iron ions enter the well fluids. When regular acid treatments spend (neutralize), this iron precipitates out as iron hydroxide or iron sulfide, causing severe formation plugging. EDTA-2Na sequesters these iron ions, keeping them in a stable, soluble liquid complex so they can be safely pumped out of the well.
- Drilling Fluid & Completion Fluid Optimization
- Mud Stabilization: In water-based drilling muds, calcium and magnesium ions from clay or seawater disrupt the performance of polymers and viscosity modifiers. EDTA-2Na softens the process water by binding these disruptive hard-water ions.
- Filter Cake Removal: After drilling is complete, EDTA solutions are injected to dissolve the dense filter cake layers left behind by drilling fluids, cleanly opening the well for production.
- Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
When injected into mature sandstone and carbonate reservoirs, EDTA alters the rock’s surface characteristics. By removing specific multi-valent ions from the rock surface, it shifts the rock to a more water-wet condition. This expands the water film around the rock grains, reducing interfacial tension and allowing trapped crude oil to flow more freely.
Packaging: Our Chelating Agent (EDTA-2Na) is supplied as 8 x 25kg sacks per pallet.
