VM&P Naphtha
CAS - 64742 - 89 - 8

Is recognized as a light aliphatic solvent naphtha. Composed of a narrow distilled cut of C₅ to C₁₁ hydrocarbons, it is highly valued for its fast evaporation rate and moderate solvency power.

Unlike heavier, slower-drying industrial fluids like Exxsol D40 or heavy mineral spirits, VM&P Naphtha flashes off quickly, making it ideal for localized, rapid-turnaround tasks.

Its key applications in upstream, midstream, and downstream operations include:

  1. High-Speed Component Degreasing and Surface Preparation

Oilfield tools, downhole assemblies, and pipeline parts frequently become fouled with heavy reservoir crude, paraffins, and operational greases.

  • Application: Used as a cold-cleaning bath or wipe solvent for metal machinery parts.
  • Mechanism: It breaks down light oils and asphaltic films, then evaporates completely without leaving a residue, ensuring the metal surface is perfectly prepped for immediate reassembly or NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) inspection.

  1. Diluent for Asset Integrity Coatings and Linings

To survive aggressive offshore and underground environments, drilling rigs, storage tanks, and pipelines must be coated with robust anti-corrosive epoxies, varnishes, and marine-grade paints.

  • Application: Serves as a primary solvent thinner and lacquer diluent.
  • Mechanism: Field technicians blend it into heavy coatings to lower viscosity for spray-gun application. Because it evaporates rapidly, it enables quick touch-ups and fast dry-to-touch times in humid or outdoor field environments.
  1. Drilling Mud and Completion Fluid Additive

In certain specialty water-based drilling muds or specialized packer fluids, light aliphatic hydrocarbons are integrated into the formulation.

  • Application: Acts as a continuous phase modifier or solvent aid.
  • Mechanism: It assists in maintaining the solubility of complex organic polymers and rheology modifiers under high-shear mixing, protecting the fluid matrix from breaking down downhole.
  1. Refinery Feedstock for Petrochemical Cracking

In the broader downstream sector, light straight-run and hydrotreated light aliphatic naphthas are routed through refining infrastructure.

  • Application: Used as a raw material or cracker feedstock.
  • Mechanism: Refineries utilize light petroleum naphtha fractions for steam-cracking and light-oil cracking processes to manufacture critical petrochemical building blocks such as ethylene, propylene, and synthetic ammonia.
  1. Laboratory Extraction Solvent

Oilfield production labs continually run diagnostics to monitor oil-in-water pollution levels, crude assay fractions, and drilling mud content.

  • Application: Deployed as an analytical chemical reagent.
  • Mechanism: Its tight, light aliphatic makeup makes it an excellent vehicle for extracting non-polar petroleum hydrocarbons out of mud samples or wastewater streams for testing.

Key Operational Challenges

  • Severe Flammability: With a low flash point (typically around 4°C to 15°C depending on the blend), it represents a high vapor explosion hazard on live well pads. Static grounding and explosion-proof equipment are strictly required.
  • Aspiration and Skin Hazard: If swallowed or inhaled at high concentrations, it poses a severe chemical pneumonitis (lung damage) hazard and strips natural protective oils from workers’ skin

Packaging: Our VM&P Naphtha is supplied in 4 Plastic 55 USG Drums per Pallet and in 265 USG per IBC Tote
